IND vs AFG: Rohit Sharma falls for a duck once again, failing to open his account for 12th time in T20
In the second T20 match between India and Afghanistan, the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, faced another disappointment as he failed to score for the second consecutive time in the series. After being run out in the first match, Rohit was clean bowled on the very first ball of the second match, courtesy of Afghanistan’s fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqui.
Despite Afghanistan setting a target of 173 runs, Yashasvi Jaiswal provided an aggressive start for Team India by smashing a four on the first ball. Rohit, aiming to continue the momentum, attempted a big shot but was unsuccessful. The ball proved trickier than anticipated, sliding under his bat, hitting the off stump, and scattering the wickets.
Rohit’s dismissal on the first ball marked a regrettable record, making him the second player with the most ducks in International T20, having failed to open his account for the 12th time. The top spot belongs to Afghanistan’s Paul Stirling with 13 instances of getting out on zero. Joining Rohit with 12 ducks are Rwanda’s Irakoje and Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien.
Among India’s top seven batsmen in the T20 against Afghanistan, Rohit Sharma stands as the sole player who has been dismissed without opening his account. This series has seen Rohit being out on zero twice. Looking at Indian batsmen in International T20, Lokesh Rahul follows Rohit with five instances of failing to open his account. Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Washington Sundar have experienced this four times each.
