IND vs ENG: Will Ishaan get the responsibility of wicket keeper in place of Rahul in test series?

IND vs ENG Will Ishaan get the responsibility of wicket keeper

Upon recovering from an injury, KL Rahul astounded fans with his proficient batting and wicketkeeping skills. Last year, he suffered an injury during the IPL but made a comeback in the Asia Cup. Since then, he has played crucial innings, helping Team India triumph in challenging situations.

Post his return, Rahul shouldered the dual responsibility of middle-order batting and wicketkeeping, performing admirably in both roles. However, selectors are contemplating relieving him of the wicketkeeping duty to provide some much-needed rest. The potential return of Ishan Kishan is also under consideration.

Despite his consistent cricketing endeavors, Rahul has been excluded from the T20 series against Afghanistan. After the T20 series, India is scheduled to engage in a five-match Test series against England. While Rahul is expected to be selected for the Test series, it seems likely that he will only play as a specialist batsman.

Media reports suggest that selectors are contemplating giving Rahul a break from wicketkeeping duties during the series, with plans to include a specialist wicketkeeper in the team. Rishabh Pant’s unavailability due to injury and KS Bharat’s unremarkable form further complicate the situation. As a result, Ishan Kishan may make a comeback.

Reports indicate that selectors are reluctant to risk Rahul on India’s turning pitches and may deploy him solely as a specialist batsman. Given Rahul’s recent injury history, the BCCI is keen on avoiding unnecessary risks. Consequently, Ishan might secure a spot in the team, having withdrawn from the South African tour and not being selected for the Test series against Afghanistan.

Head coach Rahul Dravid announced his break and unavailability for the series against Afghanistan. He is expected to participate in the Ranji Trophy before the Test series against England, featuring in a match between Jharkhand and Services scheduled for January 19.

KS Bharat, captaining the India A team against England Lions, is a potential backup inclusion. Shreyas Iyer, dropped from the T20 series against Afghanistan, is set to play in the Ranji Trophy match against Andhra Pradesh for the Mumbai team. Meanwhile, Rahul has received advice to refrain from participating in Ranji matches and prioritize rest.
