Replacing injured kicker Gano with Randy Bullock, Giants acquire his services

It looks like the Giants have finally found a backup for their main kicker, Graham Gano. This is a big deal that could have effects for the rest of the season. Randy Bullock is almost ready to join the team and become a member of the practice squad. Lawrence Tynes, a former Giants kicker who now co-hosts the New York Post’s “Blue Rush” podcast, was the first to report that Bullock, Robbie Gould, Mason Crosby, and Matthew Wright were seen working out.

This move had to be made because Gano was going to have surgery on his knee soon and would then be put on the injured reserve list. The 18th of October was the first time he saw a spot on the pain report. Gano missed two important field goals in last Sunday’s game against the Jets, but head coach Brian Daboll still had faith in him. But Gano’s performance has clearly gotten worse this season. His success rate has dropped from 91.8% in 2020-22 with the Giants to 64.7% this season, which points to a deeper problem.

The Giants pointed out that the Jets didn’t call a penalty on Gano’s last try, but special teams coach Thomas McGaughey stressed how important it was to perform when needed. Before the practice and workout on Thursday, he didn’t talk about Gano’s knee injury. In the locker room talk after the game, Gano did not use his injury as an excuse for the important miss.

The coach said, “He’s just working on some things right now. Hopefully, it can get worked out and things can keep going.” “Gary’s pretty good, you know.” He’s better than most even when he’s between 80% and 85%, or 70%. We’re just going to get through it. We’ll take care of it later if we need to.

Gould and Bullock, two former Giants who kicked for the 49ers and Titans last season, got all the attention. Crosby also got a lot of attention because he had only played for the Packers for 16 years. Matthew Wright, who has a lot less experience than most kickers (he only kicked in six games for the Chiefs and Steelers last season), was also there. It’s still too early to tell how these planned moves will affect the Giants’ play at this crucial point in the season.
