Rohit Sharma makes T20 history against Afghanistan in Indore during IND vs AFG T20 match

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, Registered his name in history during the second T20 match against Afghanistan in Indore on Sunday. He became the first male cricketer to reach the milestone of playing 150 international T20 matches. Rohit’s T20 journey began on 19 September 2007, when he played his first match against England. Notably, his return to the T20 team came after a hiatus of 14 months from the shortest format of international cricket.

Following Rohit, Ireland’s Paul Stirling holds the second position in terms of the most T20 matches played, with 134 matches. George Dockrell of Ireland follows in third place, having participated in 128 matches. Shoaib Malik from Pakistan occupies the fourth spot with 124 matches, while New Zealand’s Martin Guptill is in fifth place, having played 122 matches.

Rohit Sharma also holds the record for the highest number of sixes in T20 Internationals, boasting an impressive 182. Additionally, he ranks second in the list of highest run-scorers in this format, with only Virat Kohli ahead of him. Kohli, making his T20 return after a gap of 14 months, played his first T20 International since November 2022, as he had missed the first match of the three-game series due to family reasons.

When considering both men’s and women’s records, India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur emerges as the player with the most T20 matches, having played 161 so far. Following her, New Zealand’s Suzie Bates is in second place with 152 matches, while England’s Danielle Wyatt holds the third position with 151 matches. Australia’s wicketkeeper and captain, Alyssa Healy, has participated in 150 matches, securing the fourth spot.
